Sayonara, cabin fever.
I can't tell you what a difference it makes to be able to "hang out" outside now. I'm sure a lot of parents can relate to this feeling. But I think it's especially acute at my latitude. As I'm writing this, it's 8:15 p.m. and the sun is just setting. Isn't it amazing how fast we go from 6 hours of daylight to having to use block-out curtains?
On Fridays I work a half day from home, so we headed to the forest for a couple of hours. We took our time, stopping to throw pebbles in the water, pick up pine cones and identify critters. Sophie met a ladybug and earthworm in our yard a few days ago, and it's so fun to see how curious she is about tiny creatures. But, today, a black slug crossing our path was not too happy to meet Sophie. After marveling at the slow-moving little guy, she proceeded to stomp on him. (Is the urge to squash slugs just in our nature?)
RIP, Mr. Slug.
Cabin fever is the worst with kids. Our winter here in Ohio was very loooong this year. It's been spring like these last couple of weeks, so I've been taking the kids out every chance I get. Before you know it, Midsummer will be here.
Slugs are pretty gross. I totally get it , Sophie.
