This morning was a celebration for St. Lucia day (officially on Sunday) at Sophie's Montessori preschool. I've known about the event for about a month but didn't really know what it would entail.
My friend, Anna, mentioned that her son, Lucas, was going to be dressed as Santa. Hmmm, I wondered, did they give Sophie a part in the pageant? So yesterday, when I picked Sophie up, I asked. "Oh yes," her teacher said. "She's going to be singing!" Great, I thought, then asked if she needed to wear anything special. Her teacher pointed to a sign that showed little girls in white Lucia dresses. "Do you have one for her to wear?," I asked.
I'm not sure why, but I assumed that since they celebrate Lucia every year, that they would have outfits the kids could wear. But, no, it was up to me to dress her for the occasion. When I joked that I didn't have a spare Lucia outfit hanging around, Carolina said it was no problem... just put glitter in her hair.
Yeah, um, I don't really keep glitter on hand either.
Luckily, the stores are prepared for Lucia pageants, and parents who think to themselves, "Sure I could just put some glitter in her hair, but just think how cute she'll look as a little santa, Lucia or gingerbread girl."
And boy was I right.
