Lewis couldn't sleep last night, and it almost ruined our house.
Not getting the connection? Let me fill in the blanks.
When we woke up this morning, Lewis said we needed to switch out our winter comforter for the summer one because he was too hot last night. No problem. I just threw it in the wash to freshen it up before we made the switch. As I jammed it into the washer, I wondered if it would be too big. But the water came rushing in, and it turned, and everything was good. I threw a few things in the dryer and went downstairs to get ready for work. A few minutes later I went to check on everything and nothing was working. There was mass confusion for several minutes before we noticed that we tripped a switch. OK, we flipped it and everything was working again. We did realize, however, that the comforter was just too much to handle for the washer. We have an industrial-size one in the basement, so we threw it in there instead.
I go downstairs and grab breakfast out of the fridge, and the fridge shuts off. The lights are flickering and it's making a weird noise. Oh my god, the fridge is breaking. Lewis comes upstairs from the basement and asks for the 10th time that morning, "Have you ever washed one of these before?" Yes... I have always had a down comforter and have always washed it periodically. Otherwise, gross! I tell him that the fridge isn't working, so he runs downstairs and shuts off the washer. It didn't do anything. The fridge is completely dead. No sign of life. We run to the fuse box (yes, they still use fuses) and I notice one is popped. Now what? Fuses are laying everywhere. It's complete chaos. But Lewis finds the right one and we put it in. Voila! The fridge is working again.
Note: At this point I have a meeting with my boss in like 15 minutes... my hair is wet, and I'm still in my pajamas.
OK, so we go upstairs where we still have a water-filled washer. I "fast-forward" the cycle so it goes to the spin-and-draining step. It worked!! Then Lewis goes to the basement, takes the sopping-wet comforter out and tries the same thing there. It worked!
Happy, happy, happy and rushing, rushing to work... I just watched like a few thousand dollars come out of our account and then go back in again.
I think we will both sleep soundly tonight.
